Unexpected Thing

She dreams and tries to wake

Given up as much too late

A broken truth is hard to shake

She never thought to feel this way

Dreams mean nothing without the chance you take

An unexpected thing

To make a broken voice sing

Blithey, blindly going along

Life threw a sneaky curve

Suddenly made stupid songs

Seem like more than words

A beauty unperfected

A love that thought rejected

But fate is a cruel wind blown

She realized she'd been wrong

Left standing on her own

Grasping at a half heard song

She asks, “Why do you have to be

I didn’t ask to be seen

I didn’t look but there you were

Why do you have to be

Smiling so sweet and walking away

Why do you have to be

All I need

When I can’t believe

Why do you have to be

In my dreams

Why do you have to be this unexpected thing

To make a broken voice sing”

But now, she dreams and sees a smile

So she'd rather not wake for while
