A Garden Made of Mist
Stood in a garden made of mist
Face turned up to feel the rain
Folded my heart around the pain
Opened my mouth. Tried to sing
Drifted in an ocean made of verdigris
Felt the undertow calling
Tossed my hopes into a passing breeze
Opened my mouth. No sound came
Sat among memories made of stones
Held myself tight, freezing
Pushed the cold from my bones
Opened my mouth. Almost sang
Climbed a jagged hill made of jade
Turned to see where I’d been
Moved into sunlight from the shade
Opened my mouth
And sang
